This Week’s Deals 10/7

Not as many deals as last week, but I found a few.

Christ Apple Orchard
We went to a local Apple Orchard* on Saturday and I was able to get a bushel of Macintosh apples for $22! I’ve already put away 18 quarts of applesauce in the freezer and have a peck left to make apple pie filling or more applesauce. My mom paid $30 a bushel at an orchard about an hour from us, and I’ve heard other local orchards are charging double, even triple that! I was so thrilled! We also bought pumpkins, picked half a peck of apples to eat, a food mill to make applesauce making much easier (I paid $20, and saw it for $30 online, plus shipping), a few locally grown onions, apple cider, local strawberry jam and more – it was a good trip!

Cub Foods
$1.58 lb. for ground chuck (with in store coupon). I know it’s not local or organic, but I haven’t found a source yet and our budget can’t handle the beef I did find (local & organic for $6 a lb just isn’t in our budget right now). I stocked up and have 7 lbs so far! (limit 5, but I’ve gone in multiple times)

Cub shredded cheese 2/$4, I always keep some in the freezer, so I got a few.

They advertised an ‘Apple Machine’ that corred, peeled, sliced apples – but both Cub in my area didn’t have it. That was very disappointing, it was a good deal at $12.99 and I’ve had a hard time finding them elsewhere.

Kroger
more 10/$10! I picked up a few more veggies to have, plus there organic frozen veggies are reasonable at $1.99, so I got a few of those too. Also, Hormel salami was 10/$10 so I got some for David’s lunches. I couldn’t ever find the Jenni-O ground turkey that was 10/$10, but my mom found some at her Kroger and got me a few pounds.

Frontera Natural Frozen Pizza, $1.99
In the natural foods section there as a frozen pizza, that isn’t organic, but is ‘all natural and preservative free’ (I really just have to trust them on it), but it was an all veggie pizza, regularly $6.99, on sale for $1.99! So I picked up 3 to have. It’s a nice balance for me – not quite a Jack’s Pizza, but not organic – but a  good deal to meet in the middle!

Wal-Mart
I headed to Wal-Mart to find some deals on organics after reading on Money Saving Mom. But once I got there was disappointed I didn’t find most of the deals I was looking for. I did end up using a $1 coupon for Cascadian Farms to get granola bars for $1.72 (cheap for organic) and I got Green Giant steamers for .78 cents after $1 coupon (go to MoneySavingMom for the scoop and the coupons to print).

Thrift Stores
I found several “in the box” little Christmas Trees for $1-3 each to save for Christmas. I also found some cheap Fall decor too for the front porch (a huge cornucopia dried flower arrangement for $2!). And brand new Target notecards for $1. I have found great deals on holiday decor at the thrift stores – much cheaper than buying (even on sale) at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby!
