Since I’ve had a lot of time on my hands, I’ve tried to use it to save money! I’ve been scouring the local circulars, clipping coupons and finding freebies! Much credit goes to Money Saving Mom (and Melissa for sending me the link!). It’s funny because at dinner each night we talk about our days, and David’s are about work and the highlight of my day is that I got a toothbrush for free!
Here’s the deals I found this week:
Online Freebies – his & hers razors! (deals might be over)
Walgreens
Gillette Fusion Razor (plus I got the one that had a free trial of body wash and shaving cream in it for traveling!)
$8.99 sale
- $4 coupon from newspaper
+ $4 register rewards to use at Walgreens later
$.99! for a nice razor!
Puffs Tissues
89 cents Walgreens in store coupon
- 25 cents coupon from newspaper
$.64 cents after coupon (cheap for namebrand tissues!)
(I also found another coupon lying around at Krogers, so I’m going back to Walgreens to get another box)
Oral B Indicator Toothbrush
$1.99 sale
- $1 Easy Saver Walgreens Coupon
- $1 coupon from newspaper (although she wasn’t going to accept it, she keyed it in for me)
FREE!
(I like to keep extras around for guests or for Operation Shoeboxes)
Crest Toothpaste (plus I got the one that had free trial toothpaste & floss!)
$1.99 sale
- $1 Easy Saver coupon
- $.75 coupon from newspaper
$.24 cents after coupons!
Kroger
Lots of 10/$10 sales at Krogers, I picked up a few for easy/cheap meals.
Kroger’s Smoked Sausage 10/$10
- Easy meal when we’re rushing to eat, heat sausage in microwave, then serve with eggs and toast/bagels. I bought extra to freeze for later. One pack gives us 2+ meals!
Kroger’s Biscuits 10/$10
- I know I should make my own, but they never taste as good! One of David’s favorite meals is biscuits and gravy. I look for the sausage on sale, but have found a brand that is distributed in Pekin! So we’ve been buying that from Cub (aka, local).
Steam in the Bag Vegetables 10/$10
- A new hit for us is Veggies Alfredo. Penne pasta (I bought organic whole wheat on sale at Cub a few weeks back 4/$5), steamed veggies and alfredo sauce. Very fast and easy. We steam the veggies in the microwave. I buy the ’stir fry’ kind of veggies.
Kroger Bagels 10/$10
We go through a lot of bagels. I haven’t found an organic/local brand here – so we buy whatever is cheapest. I bought 5 bags and froze the extras. This should last us a while!
Clif Bars 10/$10
I picked up several Clif Bars that were on sale at Krogers. I also love the ‘manager specials’ at Kroger and have found lots of organic items for cheap because of this! We also got several other raw/organic bars for less than $1 that were clearanced.
Cub Foods
Pork Chops, Buy one Get one Free (not organic or local, but we haven’t found a good option yet)
Picked up 2, a good deal, averages to .75-$1 per pork chop. An easy meal when others are over, or 2 meals for us. I am going to try this recipe next week.
Stonyfield Organic Yogurt 99 cents each
Unfortunately, the Cub by us didn’t have them. So if we get to the other one before the sale ends I’ll pick some up.
Cub also has local apples and pumpkins for sale!
Kmart
Price adjustment!
- I went to the customer service with my receipt to get a price adjustment on curtains I bought last week that are on sale this week. Only got be $5 back, but it was worth it. Keep this in mind, you can get a price adjustment within 10 days of the sale.
Return
I bought 2 fabric shower curtains to turn into curtains for David’s office. They were $20 each, a little pricey for me, but the only option I could find. However, my mom found the same curtain on clearance at her Kmart for $8! So I was able to return 1 curtain, plus the price adjustment on the other – now the curtains only cost me about $25, not bad!
Freebies!
They had a bucket full of Scrubbing Bubbles freebies at the customer service desk! There was a bucklet full of $5 worth of coupons and trials of the flushable cleaning wipes. I took 4 of each! If you live in Peoria, stop by for some freebies, if not, check your local Kmart! I was so thrilled and almost want to go back for more, lol. I use the Scrubbing Bubbles toilet wands (which is not eco-friendly but I’m a wuss when it comes to cleaning toilets) and there’s a coupon for $1 off!
Step Basket
I was thrilled to find a random step basket at Kmart for only $10! I just bought one at Jefferey Alans for $25!! I had only seen them for $25 or more anywhere I looked. Now I have a basket to collect things that need to go up or down on the stairs leading upstairs and the basement stairs.
Target
Shelving
Black wire shelving was on sale. I picked up several shelves (2 small, one large) to use in the basement. I will hopefully be moving my Etsy Store downstairs so I have plenty of room to take pictures and such. 2 smalls were $15 each, large was $40. The chrome alternative I was eyeing before was double! And I was going to get 1 small, and 1 small with baskets – but with baskets was $30, so I decided to add my own baskets (that I already have) and save $15!
Eggs
Target has eggs that are from Illinois! They’re not organic, but a nice option since I haven’t found a good organic/local choice yet.
Global Village, Fair Trade Store, Peoria Heights
No Sweat Sneakers $25
They were on sale! David needed a new pair of shoes, and these are not only sweatshop free, but they’re comparable to regular priced shoes! There was a back to school sale, so I picked up a pair (they look like black converse).
Thrifting
I finally got a break and had a great thrifting week! I had been disappointed so far with Peoria’s selection, and I still didn’t find as much as in Appleton, but I did pretty good!
Patio Table $4
Plastic patio table – $4 on sale! No chairs, but we have plenty of chairs. Our original one cost us $20 new! Now we have 2 for entertaining.
Pumpkins $3
I got 2 very cute ‘patchwork’ looking pumpkins for $3 total, just what I wanted for the entryway table – I was looking to spend triple that buying new!
Cookbook Holder $1
I have wanted a cookbook holder for some time. And while this isn’t my favorite, it works! I had my eye on one at Hobby Lobby for $12! This saved me a lot!
Hanging File Holder, $2
Goes inside shorter filing cabinets to hold files. We got our filing cabinets used, but needed the file holder to go inside. I bought one set for $8 new and found this one – in the packaging – for less than half the price!
…so many more finds I can’t remember! Lots of great items for my Etsy Shop!
Did you find any good deals this week? Most of the store sales are still on until Saturday – so you’ve still got time to steal some deals yourself!

Good finds. A little tip about Walgreens about 2 times a month they have a coupon for $5/$10 off your en entire purchase if you spend a certain amount. If you sign up to get their e-mails then you will see when these coupons occur or check weekly.
