World Fair Trade Day: May 10, 2008

This Saturday, May 10 is World Fair Trade Day.

I recently learned that Appleton has a Fair Trade store, and I haven’t been able to check it out yet, but I signed up for their emails, and I received this in my inbox today:

This Saturday, May 10, 2008, thousands of Americans are coming together to enjoy a cup of fair trade coffee and/or other fair trade beverage. It will be a challenge to set a new record that will serve as a benchmark for following years. (Numbers are being counted at each event nationwide.)

May 10 also coincides with World Fair Trade Day which is a day set aside to celebrate those who produce many of the things we purchase. By participating in the coffee break, we will be communicating as a community that fair trade is important to us.

What: World’s Largest Fair Trade Coffee Break
When: This Saturday, May 10, 2008; 10 a.m. – 2p.m.
Where: Globally Sound, 326 E Wisconsin Ave. – Appleton
FREE Organic Fair Trade Coffee, Hot Tea and Ice Tea will be provided

I am going to see if we can stop by after the Post Office Food Drive. Who doesn’t want some free beverages?! And I’d like to see the store in person anyway.

Turns out this is a very grassroots event and can be done by anyone – even in their home! So even if you don’t live in Appleton, or there’s not an event by you, you can create your own just by serving Fair Trade coffee in your home and inviting some friends & family over! See more details here.
