Today we donated our car to the church. Now we are down to one car.
We’ve really been a one car household since April, because we loaned it out to 2 different friends who’s cars had died. But we still “owned” it and payed for insurance, license plates, etc.
But officially today we drove it to (our church) work (it barely made it, David had to pull over a few times cause it wouldn’t accelerate after a stop light) and handed over the title and keys.
It feels good to finally have it done. It’s not hanging over our heads anymore.
They’re going to fix it up (if it is fixable!) and give it to a family who needs it.
So how will we survive with one car?
I will be taking the bus to school (saves a ton of money too!) come September and David will take the Saturn to work. Saves money from gas (cost me $6-9 a day in gas to drive to school and back) and from buying a parking permit at school (I think $150 a year?). If I ever need the car, I’ll just drop David off at work before class, then head to school and pick him up after school (my schedule is roughly 9am-3pm each day).
And I have to catch the bus pretty early – so if I do miss the bus, there’s tons of time for me to take him to work and get to school in time (though finding parking off campus will be the hard part). And even when I do park on campus, I have to arrive early to get a good parking spot – and even then I have to walk a lot in the snow – so now the bus drops me right off- so no trudging through the snow!
It will save us a lot of money on insurance, oil changes, license renewals, gas, and repairs – plus it’s better for the environment!
I am so excited to only own one car!
