“Great taste. No calories. Wholesome ingredients. How could you drink too much?” said Diana Garza, the communications director of Coca-Cola North America.
An article from ABC News quotes the communications director of Coca-Cola after being told one woman drinks 12 Diet Coke’s a day (that’s one for every waking hour). But the article goes on to say that drinking Diet Coke can actually cause bone damage after time. And the communications director can say that it has “Wholesome Ingredients??”
I used to drink 4-5 Diet Cokes a day. The fact that it had 0 calories was always attractive, I could even “substitute” it for meals as needed. I would start out in the morning with a 32 oz. soda from the gas station (fountain soda was always my favorite!). And when I started going to Bradley University & UWO, I thought I was going to die because they didn’t have Diet Coke available (no joke, I would have switched schools if possible, schools with Diet Coke should advertise it in their brochures!).
But last Christmas I finally decided to “break the habit.” I have always had a lot of health problems – so I finally started eating better (we started switching to natural, organic, local foods), but still wasn’t watching how much soda I drank. By not drinking soda and switching to water (I now drink at least 64 oz. of water a day), I have been able to stop taking several medications (and I’m working on one more). Soda really did mess up my body (that and all the other crap I ate). I don’t need a scientist to tell me facts about how what I’m eating is hurting my body – I discovered it for myself. You really are what you eat, and all I ate was junk. Once in a while I get an odd craving for soda – but I can’t usually take more than 2 sips because it makes me nauseous.
I don’t miss Diet Coke at all (not to mention the money I’ve saved by not buying it every morning at the gas station, buying 24-packs for our fridge, or hitting up the vending machine at work).

I haven’t had Coca-cola for almost 4 years. My bones don’t need the extra phosphate and I drink a lot more water. If I do feel like Coke I am quite happy to get an Australian owned and made similar drink which is great for the economy. They aren’t quite the same but they are close enough. I never liked the Diet version anyway because I am one of those people who can taste the artificial sweeteners. I haven’t needed fillings in the last three annual dental checks – that’s a big saving!
