End of the Week Round-Up

There’s so much more going on I wanted to add…but I had better get to class! I don’t have a blogroll on here, mainly because it’s too embarrassing how many blogs I subscribe to! So this is my way of giving you a glimpse of my favorite blogs, plus some things happening online. When I get a change I’ll post blogrolls by category (ie “Artsy,” “Eco-Friendly,” “Simple Living,” etc.), but for now enjoy these links:

  • Lots of people are talking about the backlash to Product(RED) – “despite having spent as much as a reported $100 million on advertising and promotion, the (RED) campaign has raised only $18 million to fight AIDS in Africa“(via) – but Ecorazzi thinks differently and thinks (RED) is still a good idea.
  • Mark Your Calendars! – “On Thursday, March 15, from 10 AM-Noon, Starbucks will be hosting their 2nd Annual National Coffee Break. All company-operated and licensed stores in the USA, Canada, and other countries will give away a free Tall (12 oz.) coffee to anyone who stops by!” (via)
  • On another Starbucks note – Oxfam has started a photo petition to convince Starbucks to give Ethiopian Farmers some rights – Starbucks advertises as being a wonderful fair trade company, yet they give the farmer’s $.75 a lb and sell it for $26 a lb. – take a photo of yourself holding a sign that says “I support Ethiopian Coffee Farmer’s” and email it to them or upload it to the Flickr group. More info here.
  • Care to join in on Turn it Off Weekend? “From noon Saturday through noon Sunday we’re going to turn off most everything and undertake activities that don’t require electricity.”
  • You may not read Vanity Fair now…but in July you might want to pick up an issue, Bono will be the guest editor – even going as far suggesting they call it Fair Vanity for that month… and he wants it to be the best selling issue yet and be flooded with stories about Africa (he and Bill Gates discussed it)

Editor’s Update:

  • I nearly forgot to post about my friend Eric’s new blog – It’s the Second Best Invention -  about his Jeep. “Adventures in Frustration to own a jeep is to love a jeep. but to work on one is a pain. watch as one boy toys with a project that’s likely to cause premature baldness.” So if you’re into Jeeps (apparently it’s a Jeep thing), then check out his blog for updates on his Jeep Adventures.
